UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITES HALLSTATT & SALZWELTEN
The history of salt from its beginnings 7000 years ago cloak Hallstatt and the nearby Salzwelten salt caves with a sense of culture which sits fittingly alongside the fabulous scenery all around. The historic town of Hallstatt is known for its quaint houses, and it is only a hop, skip and jump from here that the funicular railway takes visitors up to the oldest active salt mine in the world. A visit to the mines is fascinating, and the panorama from the viewing platform over Lake Hallstatt will take your breath away.
KRIPPENSTEIN, ZWIESELALM AND CAVES A-PLENTY
Guests who seek to experience the exhilaration of life at altitude should treat themselves to a day on the Krippenstein or the Zwieselalm. To reach the ‘5 Fingers’ viewing platform, the world heritage spiral and the Dachstein shark, simply take the cable car from Obertraun up to the Krippenstein. The middle station of the cable car gives you access to the mystic ice cave and mammoth cave. Down in the valley, the world heritage site shows off its softer side. The iridescent lakes vie to outshine the Dachstein glacier, while the lake at Gosau is a veritable idyll offering a magnificent view of the Dachstein.
DACHSTEIN SHARK
The king of the prehistoric seas has returned! The Dachstein shark is the newest attraction on the Heilbronner circular walk and offers you a fascinating insight into the history of the Dachstein plateau. Amid its previous hunting ground, you can marvel at this prehistoric predator. A 30 min walk along the well-made Heilbronner circular walking path from the Krippenstein cable car station will lead you to this toothy friend.
